Antwerp Hands

One of the most tradtional and well-known gifts of the city of Antwerp, are its hand-shaped biscuits or little chocolates called the "Antwerpse Handjes", literally meaning "Antwerp Hands".

The city name "Antwerpen" (Antwerp) comes from the dutch word "hand-werpen" or hand-throwing. Legend tells that the city was under the dominion of the fearsome giant Druoon Antigoon until the brave Roman soldier Silvius Brabo cut off his hands and threw them into the river Scheldt. Today however, the delicious "Antwerpse Handjes" have become the perfect gift to express gratitude and friendship.
